Firstly if you want to gain weight quickly then you must have intensity in your training. Look on every set as if it is your last, every rep as critical. Use a stopwatch to keep a close eye on your rest periods.
What is important is that you give your muscles a reason to grow if you are going to gain weight quickly. When you train at the same level workout after workout there is no reason for your muscles to grow any further.
Whilst bodybuilding and fitness magazines might suggest otherwise there is no magic formula. In essence there are two forms of training that are key components of any successful weight training program.
1. HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVIER! The way to get as strong as possible is to focus everything into lifting heavier and heavier weights. Look to increase your strength every week and only use one compound exercise per major muscle group.
2. WORK, WORK, AND MORE WORK! Finding a good balance between training time and workload is very important. It is easy to convince yourself that you are training more but this does not mean longer gym workouts with light weights. It is far better spend less time lifting heavy weights, as heavy as possible, whilst also restricting rest periods. Your body needs to do as much work as it can in the shortest period of time. You will involve more untrained muscle if you place your muscles under stress and thereby achieve more muscle growth!
Stick with your program! Whilst it might seem like a good idea to trial a program for a few weeks and then move on to the next one. Beware, you’re fooling yourself. You are not taking this seriously! You wouldn’t think of embarking on a college course but giving up after a month or so. No, you need to make the investment in order to achieve your aims and gain weight quickly. This is also true of a fitness program.
